Housing Standards Review

Publication date: March 2014 OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Ranking: essential

The Government have undertaken a review of the building regulations
framework and voluntary housing standards which aimed to rationalise the
large number of codes, standards, rules, regulations and guidance that the Government believe add unnecessary cost and complexity to the house
building process.

The review involved a wide range of interested stakeholder working groups. The consultation covered:

  • accessibility
  • space
  • security
  • water efficiency
  • energy
  • indoor environmental standards
  • materials
  • process and compliance

A Ministerial Statement on the Government’s decision is available below. It states what it intends to do next  together with a copy of the Government’s summary of the responses.
