The article reports on a study which shows that the impact on a community of gentrification can be both positive and negative depending on who you are. It has relevance for anyone working on regeneration and co-design who’s looking at the equality impacts.
So as they state:
“Newcomers may select neighbourhoods that have the potential for the kind of community they seek (think neighbourhoods with a heavy LGBT presence, for example), so the sense of community strengthens.”
Conversely rising house prices may impact on poor sections of a community.”
